I am an integrative counsellor who works with adults and young people (from 14 years) so that you can explore your current difficulties in an empathic and non-judgemental space.

We all have times in our lives where situations can feel overwhelming and we find it difficult to imagine that things can ever be different.  I truly believe that you are the expert in you and, with the appropriate support, you can find ways of being that bring you more peace.  I can provide you with a space where you feel heard and understood so that you can really explore your thoughts and feelings without fear of judgement.  I work in an integrative way which means that I draw on a range of different counselling theories and skills to ensure that the work we do together is tailored to your personal needs.

I have experience working with young people and adults and am passionate about offering a service that does not discriminate but instead values each client as the individual that they are.  I work with a range of issues and am particularly interested in working with members of the LGBTQ+ community and also with the people who support them.

I have a Level 4 Diploma in Integrative Counselling and a Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling.  The awarding body for these qualifications is the CPCAB whose site can be found here: https://www.cpcab.co.uk/  I am also a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) a well-recognised governing body for counsellors and psychotherapists in the UK.

While qualifications are important, as they give assurance of a professional standard, what is invaluable is the experience of clients and, to that end, I have provided an example of client feedback below:

'Sara has been wonderful. From the moment I met her when I was in complete despair she made me feel instantly at ease. Sara listened and never judged. She let me just speak about everything I was feeling big or small and I was so grateful.

Sara taught me all about anxiety, gave me techniques to try, some of those that will last a lifetime. She taught me not to be afraid of anxiety and that it’s normal to feel some of the things we do. Something I never thought was right or normal before.

Sara is a credit to the counselling profession and I am so thankful I have found her.

I have left today a different person and feel so happy and excited to continue the work I have learnt alone now. Knowing I’m strong enough to do so.

Thank you for everything Sara, for listening and being there.

Where do you turn when you feel like there is nowhere to go?

A question I have found myself reflecting on many times when I have found situations, and the accompanying feelings, completely overwhelming. Often, the answer is to seek advice and support from trusted family members or good friends.

Sometimes, though, seeking an objective view is needed to give space for personal reflection as it takes away the emotional element that is always present when speaking with those who care for us.  My own experience of seeking help and support at difficult times in my life has been very mixed but the very best support I have received is from people that enable me to speak my truth and allow me to explore all my feelings around this without making me feel rushed or judged.

My decision to train as a counsellor was driven by these positive experiences.  I know, personally, how difficult it can be to express feelings and to have the courage to reach out for support.  I strive to be the empathic other that creates a safe, non-judgemental space in which you can explore your own difficult life situations enabling you to find your own answers; allowing you to make the changes that work for you.
